Agri-Environmental Group Plan
An Agri-Environmental Group Plan (AEGP) is a complementary program to the Environmental Farm Planning (EFP) process. The AEGP process differs from the EFP in that it is based in a particular geographic area and it focuses strategically on the protection of ground and surface water. It the goal of the MJRWS to reduce the impacts of agriculture on ground and surface water quality.
The AEGP Group Plan focuses on 4 Beneficial Management Practises (BMP's) through the Farm Stewardship Program: Improved Livestock Site Managment, Improved Manure Management, Improved Land Management, and Water Well Management. These BMP's have a direct correlation to protecting both surface and ground water. Improved Livestock Site, Manure and Land Management BMP's are funded betwen 50-75% cost share depending on the project.
We work one on one with agriculture land owners to help them implement these BMP's on their farms. This can include farm visits, sourcing information for them and providing them with the technical tools to make good, solid environmental decisions on their farms.
