The MJRWS works annually with local rural municipalities in our watershed to control the spread of invasive weeds such as leafy spurge, purple loosestrife, baby’s breath, perennial thistle, dam’s rocket and the list can go on. We have provided cost share funding towards spraying and chemical costs to control these weeds. In 2008- 2009, Rural Municipalities 131, 161, 162, 163, and 101 took part in the program and mapped invasive weed and spraying locations in their Rural Municipalities. This partnership has become a building block aiding Rural Municipalities to control invasive weed issues and the MJRWS to address this key action in our Source Water Protection Plan.
